Mount Manaslu is the eighth-highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 8,163 meters (26,781 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Mansiri Himal subrange of the Himalayas in the Gorkha District of Nepal. The name "Manaslu" is derived from the Sanskrit word "Manasa," which means "intellect" or "soul." The mountain is sometimes referred to as "Kutang" as well. Manaslu is known for its challenging climbing conditions and is considered one of the more difficult 8,000-meter peaks to ascend. The first ascent of Mount Manaslu was made by a Japanese team in 1956. The mountain has since become a popular destination for mountaineers, and trekking in the Manaslu region has gained popularity as an alternative to the more crowded routes in the Everest and Annapurna regions. The trek around Manaslu, known as the Manaslu Circuit Trek, offers stunning views of the mountain and takes trekkers through diverse landscapes, including remote villages, lush forests, and high mountain passes. The region was opened to foreign trekkers in 1991, and since then, it has become a sought-after trekking destination for those looking to experience the beauty of the Himalayas in a less crowded setting.
