Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet), rises majestically in the Himalayas on the border between Nepal and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. Known as Sagarmatha in Nepal and Chomolungma in Tibet, it has long symbolized human endurance and exploration. The mountain was first summited in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Despite its allure, Everest poses extreme challenges, including thin air, unpredictable weather, avalanches, and dangerous icefalls. Each climbing season draws adventurers seeking its summit, while local Sherpa communities play an essential role in guiding and supporting expeditions. Everest remains a powerful emblem of nature’s grandeur.
